Vice President Kamala Harris recently completed a multi-day battleground state tour and is now set to attend a major fundraiser in San Francisco to court West Coast donors. The event, part of the Harris Victory Fund, has sold out with nearly 700 RSVPs and is expected to raise over $12 million for the campaign. Harris plans to leverage her deep roots in the Bay Area and the support of former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi during the event.
The fundraiser comes on the heels of a historic $310 million raised in July by the Harris-Walz campaign, following Harris’s announcement of Minnesota Governor Tim Walz as her running mate. Walz will not be in attendance at the fundraiser, but will be on the East Coast next week after campaigning with Harris in Las Vegas.
Pelosi’s appearance at the event marks a significant shift in her relationship with President Joe Biden, whom she had previously nudged towards dropping out of the race for the 2024 election. Pelosi had warned Biden that his decision to stay in the race could jeopardize Democratic control of the House, Senate, and presidency. She endorsed Harris just 24 hours after Biden opted out of the race, citing concerns about the future of the country under Donald Trump.
Pelosi recently spoke about her decision-making process in various interviews, expressing doubts about Biden’s political operation and emphasizing the importance of preventing Trump from winning the election. She stated that she had not spoken with Biden since he stepped aside.
