Five wildfires in Turkey being fought by firefighters without stopping

Portugal has dispatched a special task force consisting of 80 firefighters to help in the battle against a fire that has been burning on Madeira island for three consecutive days. The fire, which started in Serra de Água, in the municipality of Ribeira Brava, has spread to neighbouring areas, prompting the evacuation of residents. In Turkey, firefighters are also facing a tough battle against five blazes that have been burning for four days in various regions of the country. The authorities have attributed the high number of wildfires to low humidity, strong winds, and high temperatures, with climate change playing a role in their frequency and intensity. Despite the evacuation of thousands of people from affected areas, there have been no reports of casualties. While 69 wildfires have been contained, five remain active in different provinces. The General Directorate of Forestry in Turkey has warned against lighting fires outdoors due to increased wildfire risk for the next 10 days. In both countries, firefighters are working tirelessly on land and from the air, with the help of aircraft and vehicles. The situation remains critical, with authorities urging caution and vigilance over the weekend. In the midst of these challenges, both countries continue to receive support and are working diligently to contain the fires and protect their citizens and natural resources.
