Stephanie Grisham, former White House press secretary under Trump, disavowed her former boss and expressed support for Kamala Harris at the Democratic National Convention. Grisham criticized Trump, accusing him of lacking empathy, morals, and fidelity to the truth. She recounted an incident during the Covid pandemic where Trump visited a hospital and was more concerned about being on camera than the people dying in the ICU. Grisham also highlighted a moment on Jan. 6 when she asked Melania Trump to denounce violence, but was denied and subsequently resigned. She praised Harris for telling the truth and respecting the American people. Grisham acknowledged that she never wanted to lie at the White House podium, which is why she did not hold briefings. She emphasized the importance of unity and conversation, even if people disagree on policies. Grisham commended the Harris campaign for effectively communicating the importance of protecting freedoms, including reproductive rights. She also criticized Trump and Vance as misogynistic and short-sighted. Grisham distanced herself from Trump after Jan. 6 and cooperated with the House committee investigating the insurrection. She attempted to resign from the White House multiple times before finally resigning on Jan. 6.
