At a rally in New York, former President Donald Trump announced his plans to travel to Springfield, Ohio, and Aurora, Colorado, within the next two weeks. Trump has been spreading false claims about Haitian migrants in Springfield, including baseless accusations that they are eating pets, which have been debunked. Similar rumors about Venezuelans in Aurora have also been spread by Trump. Springfield Mayor Rob Rue expressed concern that a visit from Trump would strain the city’s resources. As Trump continues to spread falsehoods about Haitian migrants, Ohio Governor Mike DeWine reported bomb threats in Springfield, some of which he suggested may be originating from a particular country. The president of the Haitian Community Support Center in Springfield stated that these conspiracy theories have instilled fear among Haitians in the community. Trump’s campaign did not provide further information on his travel plans. Despite there being no credible reports to support his claims, Trump has persisted in spreading misinformation about Haitian migrants.
