Ex-Florida deputy arrested for manslaughter after claiming accidental shooting of girlfriend during ‘dry-firing’ incident

A former Florida sheriff’s deputy, Leslie Boileau, was arrested for manslaughter in connection with the accidental shooting death of his girlfriend at their home in Ocala. Boileau called 911 to report the shooting, stating that they had been handling and dry-firing firearms when the fatal incident occurred. Boileau explained that he accidentally discharged a loaded round while demonstrating the use of a rifle, resulting in the girlfriend being shot in the head. Boileau claimed his girlfriend had asked him to teach her how to use the gun. A search warrant revealed physical evidence corroborating Boileau’s account, leading to his arrest for manslaughter. Boileau was terminated from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, where he had worked for eight years, immediately following the incident. Ocala Police Chief Mike Balken described the shooting as a tragic incident and offered condolences to the victim’s family. Sheriff Billy Woods expressed heartbreak for the victim’s family and friends and highlighted the commendable work done by law enforcement officers. The Ocala Police Department will continue the investigation with the support of the sheriff’s office.
