The FBI, along with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Criminal Investigation Division and Coast Guard Investigative Services, boarded a vessel named Maersk Saltoro managed by the same company that caused the collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge. The cargo ship, Dali, owned and managed by Grace Ocean Private Limited and Synergy Marine Group, struck a support pillar of the bridge on March 26, leading to its collapse and the deaths of six construction workers. The National Transportation Safety Board reported that the ship experienced power losses before the collision, leaving it unable to steer away from the bridge’s pier. The U.S. Justice Department has filed a lawsuit alleging that the companies neglected electrical issues on the Dali, leading to the bridge disaster. The FBI, EPA, and Coast Guard are conducting court authorized law enforcement activity on the Maersk Saltoro, but no further comments have been made by the involved parties. NBC News has reached out to Grace Ocean Private Limited, Synergy Marine Group, the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Maryland, and the Coast Guard for comments. The investigation into the bridge collapse and the actions of the companies involved is ongoing.
