Israel conducted a strike on Hezbollah’s main military headquarters in the southern suburbs of Beirut, resulting in a series of explosions heard across the city and multiple buildings destroyed. The strike was the largest on Beirut in nearly a year and caused significant damage. Israeli spokesperson Daniel Hagari stated that the strike targeted the Hezbollah headquarters located under residential buildings to use them as human shields. Reports of casualties had not yet been confirmed.
The airstrikes led to multiple large plumes of smoke visible from a distance and caused panic in the city. The strike comes amid escalating tensions between Israel and Hezbollah, with Hezbollah firing rockets into Israel in response to the airstrikes. The death toll from Israeli strikes in Lebanon has risen to 25, with hundreds more injured and displaced.
In a speech at the UN General Assembly, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared that Israel was winning and warned Iran that there was no place their reach could not extend. He called for a peace agreement with Saudi Arabia and criticized the United Nations and the International Criminal Court. Netanyahu also emphasized the efforts made by Israel to minimize civilian casualties in the conflict and called for an end to the appeasement of Iran. The situation remains volatile, with both sides engaging in airstrikes and rocket attacks.
