Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy described his meeting with former President Donald Trump in New York as “very productive” as they discussed the ongoing war in Ukraine, following Russia’s invasion more than two and a half years ago. Zelenskyy stated that they share a common view that the war in Ukraine must be stopped and that Ukrainians must prevail over Putin.
However, it remains unclear if Zelenskyy and Trump reached a genuine consensus behind the scenes, as Trump has made claims of quick peace agreements if he wins the White House, but also implied allowing Russia to prevail. Kamala Harris, Trump’s Democratic rival, warned Zelenskyy not to accept proposals of surrender without mentioning Trump but signaling in his direction.
In other news, Kamala Harris is expected to call for tougher border actions to keep asylum seekers out during her visit to Arizona. The southern US is also facing record heat-related deaths in states like Arizona and Nevada, with hundreds of fatalities linked to the sweltering temperatures this year.
Meanwhile, at a Trump rally in Michigan, some supporters left before the former president finished speaking, with reports of early exits. The rally also coincided with Kamala Harris’s visit to the border town of Douglas in Arizona, where she is expected to focus on border security policies.
