SpaceX is set to launch two new crew members to the International Space Station on Saturday, with a mission known as Crew-9. The duo, NASA astronaut Nick Hague and Russian cosmonaut Aleksandr Gorbunov, will join five other astronauts already onboard the ISS as part of Expedition 72. They are expected to remain at the space station until February, and will return to Earth with NASA astronauts Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams, who flew to the ISS on Boeing’s Starliner spacecraft in June. However, due to issues with Starliner, Wilmore and Williams had to stay longer than planned on the ISS, resulting in a delayed return trip. Originally, Crew-9 was supposed to carry four crew members, but two seats were left empty for Wilmore and Williams. The launch of Crew-9 has been delayed multiple times, including most recently due to Hurricane Helene. Despite the storm weakening to a tropical storm, it has still affected weather conditions in the region. NASA stated that there is a 55% chance of favorable weather conditions for Saturday’s launch, with concerns primarily related to atmospheric conditions along the rocket’s path into orbit.
