Olivia Nuzzi, a political writer for New York Magazine, was granted a civil protective order against her ex-fiancé, Ryan Lizza, who is also a prominent political journalist with Politico. Nuzzi accused Lizza of harassing and blackmailing her, which led to her being sidelined from her job due to her connection to fringe presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. Despite their relationship not being physical, Nuzzi admitted that it should have been disclosed to avoid the appearance of a conflict.
Nuzzi claimed that Lizza threatened to ruin her reputation and career by disclosing personal information about her and hacking her devices. She also accused him of making threats of physical violence to force her to take on his share of responsibility in a joint book deal they had with a publisher. Lizza denied these allegations and stated that Nuzzi was trying to divert attention from her own failings by making false accusations against him.
Kennedy, known for his anti-vaccine advocacy and conspiracy theories, dropped out of the presidential race and endorsed Donald Trump. Nuzzi wrote a piece on Kennedy’s campaign titled “The Mind-Bending Politics of RFK Jr.’s Spoiler Campaign” in November last year. The relationship between Nuzzi and Kennedy, as well as the allegations against Lizza, have caused a significant amount of controversy and legal action, leading to the granting of a protective order against Lizza until a hearing scheduled for October 15th.
