Abercrombie & Fitch’s ex-CEO Mike Jeffries denies sex trafficking charges

Former Abercrombie & Fitch CEO Mike Jeffries and accomplice James Jacobson pleaded not guilty to sex trafficking and interstate prostitution charges. Jeffries remains free on a $10 million bond, while Jacobson’s bond was set at $500,000. They, along with Jeffries’ partner Matthew Smith, are accused of running an international sex trafficking and prostitution business from 2008 to 2015. The operation allegedly used coercion and deception to recruit aspiring models into commercial sex acts at various “sex events.” The men were paid and provided with alcohol and drugs during these events, with staff members facilitating and supervising. The trio also used a security company to intimidate victims and ensure their silence. The victims were kept in the dark about the details of the events through a referral system and an interview process. Witnesses have reportedly threatened to expose or sue them, prompting Jeffries and Smith to surveil and intimidate them. Federal investigators learned of these activities through media reports, including a BBC expose detailing exploitation at sex parties hosted by Jeffries. Abercrombie & Fitch and Jeffries were subsequently sued for turning a blind eye to these allegations. Jeffries’ tenure at Abercrombie & Fitch was marked by both financial success and controversy, including accusations of discrimination and abuse. The outcomes of these legal proceedings remain pending.
