Are Democrats counting on celebrity endorsements for success? Hollywood’s influence at play.

In the final week of the 2024 campaign, Democrats are leveraging celebrity endorsements to support vice president Kamala Harris. Artists such as Bruce Springsteen, Taylor Swift, and BeyoncĂ© have joined the effort to energize audiences and encourage voter turnout. Historically, Democrats have benefited from celebrity endorsements, using them to boost campaign energy and excitement. While celebrity support can create lively events, there is a risk of overshadowing potential issues with the candidate, as seen in Hillary Clinton’s 2016 campaign.

Recent events have featured performances by Stevie Wonder, Willie Nelson, and Maggie Rogers in support of Harris and her running mate, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz. Celebrities like James Taylor and various musicians have also rallied behind the Democratic ticket. Notably, when a comedian made controversial remarks at a Trump rally, Puerto Rican celebrities like Bad Bunny, Jennifer Lopez, and Ricky Martin publicly supported the Democratic campaign.

Harris has organized a series of concerts under the banner “When We Vote We Win” to encourage early voting in key battleground states. Future events will feature performances by Mumford & Sons, Los Tigres del Norte, and Maná alongside speeches from high-profile figures like Jennifer Lopez. While Trump enjoys support from celebrities that appeal to his base, he lacks the star-studded events that Harris has organized. Ultimately, the focus on celebrities can generate excitement but may also mask underlying issues with the candidate’s message or voter base, a lesson learned from Clinton’s unsuccessful 2016 campaign.
