Mandatory evacuations issued as wildfire menaces regions east of Cushing


Evacuations are underway east of Cushing, Oklahoma due to a dangerous wildfire that is quickly spreading in the area. The National Weather Service in Norman issued the evacuation orders at the request of the Oklahoma Forestry Services and Payne County Emergency Management for southeastern Payne County. The wildfire, located 4 miles east of Cushing, is moving northeast at a speed of 2 mph between Schlegal Road and Highway 99, northward to the southeast of Yale. The Cushing Fire Department reported that the fire is moving towards the Cimarron River. Residents in the area have been advised to leave immediately and travel north away from the fire, while also being warned not to drive into smoke.
