In response to a spike in skimmer fraud affecting SNAP benefits in Oklahoma, the Oklahoma Human Services is advising users to change their PIN numbers immediately. The number of stolen SNAP benefits has surged in October, with over 10,000 cases reported, making it the worst month since the fraud began. Investigators found nine skimmers last weekend, but they are hard to detect as they typically overlay existing point-of-sale devices. Oklahoma Human Services recommends users to monitor their accounts closely and to act quickly if any unauthorized activity is noticed. They also suggest downloading the Connect EBT app to ensure only the cardholder can use their cards and plan to issue SNAP EBT cards with chips next summer, which are less vulnerable to skimmer attacks. Michael Adams, special agent in charge, emphasized the importance of changing PINs and stated that the new chip cards will provide significantly higher security levels.
