Severe storms in Oklahoma cause power outages and large hail storm

Oklahoma experienced severe weather with large hail and damaging winds following days of wildfires, resulting in power outages on Wednesday. The National Weather Service issued tornado watches and severe thunderstorm warnings for various counties in the state, including Canadian, Cleveland, Grady, Lincoln, and Pottawatomie. The storms brought threats of high wind gusts and quarter-sized hail, impacting areas such as Oklahoma City, Norman, and Moore. The warnings were set to expire at different times throughout the evening. The risk of strong tornadoes and hail up to the size of tennis balls or baseballs was also highlighted, with the potential for severe storms forming primarily in the northern part of the state before moving towards the metro area. The tornado risk was expected to peak between 6 p.m. and 1 a.m. on Thursday, with areas like Enid, Tulsa, and Bartlesville at higher risk. The storms were predicted to move towards southeastern Oklahoma after 2 a.m. Alerts were issued for residents to stay informed and take precautionary measures. Weather updates were available through the KOCO 5 App for real-time coverage and alerts.
