Cowgirls Hold Strong to Beat Fairfield, 64-62


The Oklahoma State Cowgirls narrowly defeated Fairfield with a final score of 64-62 in a thrilling game that came down to the last possession. The Cowgirls, now 4-0 for the season under head coach Jacie Hoyt, held off Fairfield in front of a crowd of 2,176 fans at Gallagher-Iba Arena.

The Cowgirls dominated the Stags defensively in the first quarter, ending the period with a 19-10 lead. Standout player Stailee Heard came close to a double-double in the first half, finishing the game with 14 points, 12 rebounds, three assists, and two steals.

In the second half, Ténin Magassa scored six consecutive points to extend Oklahoma State’s lead to 41-26. However, Fairfield fought back with a 9-0 run, cutting the deficit to 44-37. The Cowgirls managed to maintain their lead, heading into the final quarter up 52-43.

Despite Fairfield’s efforts to narrow the score, the Cowgirls held on for the win. Anna Gret Asi contributed 14 points, while Magassa added 10 to help secure the victory.

The game showcased the resilience and determination of the Oklahoma State women’s basketball team, who managed to stay undefeated this season. The win was a testament to their hard work and teamwork, earning them their second 4-0 start in three seasons. The Cowgirls look poised for success as they continue their season with momentum from this hard-fought victory.
