Oklahoma Group Boosts Foster Care Assistance with $20,000 Grant
Oklahoma City, OK – The 111Project, an organization dedicated to aiding children in the state’s foster care system, has been awarded a $20,000 grant from the Oklahoma County Board of Commissioners through the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA). The funding will support the organization’s CarePortal, which serves as a platform connecting families in need with community resources. Last year, the CarePortal was only able to meet 67% of the requests submitted, highlighting an urgent need for increased assistance.
Executive Director Chris Campbell expressed gratitude towards Commissioner Brian Maughan for championing the funding. "This funding goes directly to Oklahoma County to help local families get assistance and elevate the number of needs we can meet," Campbell stated.
The 111Project collaborates with local churches and the Oklahoma Department of Human Services (DHS) to respond to anonymous requests from families facing challenges in providing for their children. Assistance includes vital support such as rental and utility aid, new appliances, or donations of essential items. The ultimate aim of this initiative is to facilitate family reunifications and prevent children from entering the foster system.
Oklahoma DHS praised the partnership, stating, "The 111Project organizes ministry partners and trainings so the local community can step forward to support their neighbors." The agency highlighted the numerous success stories attributed to the collaboration, illustrating the impact of community involvement in supporting vulnerable families.
The collaboration between the 111Project and local agencies continues to strengthen as they work together to enhance the wellbeing of children and families across Oklahoma. With the newly secured grant, they aim to fulfill more requests and create a deeper impact within the community.
