Las Vegas police are investigating the fatal shooting of a 43-year-old father, Brandon Durham, who called 911 for help during a home break-in. Durham reported that two people were shooting outside his home and trying to break in while he was inside with his 15-year-old daughter. When officers arrived, they saw damage to the home and vehicles and body camera footage showed a struggle between Durham and a suspect, Alejandra Boudreaux. The officer fired his gun after commanding Durham to drop a knife, resulting in Durham’s death. Boudreaux was arrested and is facing multiple charges. The incident appears to be targeted, not random, and Boudreaux allegedly broke in with the intention of provoking a police response. The officer’s use of force is being reviewed based on the objective reasonableness standard set by the Supreme Court. Durham’s daughter expressed anger towards the police and grief over losing her father. The investigation is ongoing, and resources for crisis support were provided for those in need.
