Cold Weather Spurs Urgent Call for Coat Donations in Oklahoma City
OKLAHOMA CITY (KOKH) — As colder weather approaches, Christmas Connection, a local non-profit organization, is urgently appealing for winter coat donations to assist families in need. This year, the organization has already distributed approximately 5,000 winter coats to Oklahoma families but faces a critical shortage as it aims to reach a total of 10,000 coats this season.
Established over 43 years ago, Christmas Connection offers a no-cost shopping experience for struggling families, providing toys, clothing, and home goods. However, this year’s coat selection is alarmingly limited. "We have just seen a huge need for coats in our location; we’ve hardly had any coats donated to us," stated April Jolley, CEO of Christmas Connection. With rising temperatures this fall, the urgency for warm clothing remains high as winter approaches.
Jolley emphasized that many children do not have adequate heating in their homes, often relying on their coats for warmth indoors. The organization currently has 3,000 families on its list needing winter coats, translating to around 12,000 to 25,000 children. "Last year, we distributed about 8,000 coats and would love to expand that to 10,000 this year," Jolley added, stressing the importance of proactive support for these families.
Christmas Connection invites the community to contribute donations, ensuring that every child in Oklahoma can stay warm during the winter months. For more information on how to donate, please visit their website.
As temperatures drop, the need for coats becomes increasingly critical, underscoring the vital role of community support in providing for vulnerable families in Oklahoma City.
