Amazon Launches Rapid Delivery Facility in Oklahoma City Ahead of the Holidays
Oklahoma City, OK – Amazon has unveiled a state-of-the-art delivery facility poised to revolutionize the shopping experience for the Oklahoma City metro area. The new 180,000-square-foot warehouse, equipped with conveyor belts and machine-operated pods, promises to deliver packages within hours of ordering, ideal for the busy holiday season.
Blaine Cooper, the site leader, emphasized the efficiency of the operation, stating, “You place an order on our website, and if we have it in our building, it’s on your doorstep within hours.” This same-day delivery site is part of Amazon’s larger investment in Oklahoma, which has resulted in over 8,000 jobs across 10 facilities and enabled more than 2,500 local small and medium businesses to participate in their marketplace.
The facility stocks over 70,000 items, with new products becoming available for sale within minutes of being placed in automated storage. Utilizing a sophisticated system that incorporates QR codes, items are quickly moved and prepared for delivery. Cooper noted that, on average, it takes just 11 minutes from when a customer places an order to when the item is ready for dispatch.
Unlike traditional delivery methods, Amazon employs local drivers using their personal vehicles for 4-8 hour delivery routes, enhancing flexibility and speed. “We’re able to deliver very quickly because of our individual drivers picking up packages throughout the day,” said Cooper.
Additionally, the facility will collect data on consumer purchasing patterns, ensuring popular items are consistently available for residents in the metro area. With this innovative approach, Amazon aims to significantly enhance community service and engagement during the holiday shopping rush.
