Studio Berlin has recently completed its Ü6 Renewal project, replacing its old HDTV outside broadcast truck with a state-of-the-art permanently installed control room in Hamburg. The new control room features cutting-edge AoIP solutions from Lawo and a Ravenna network, significantly improving workflows and production flexibility.
The Ü6 truck had been a key asset in Studio Berlin’s OB fleet for many years, used for major sporting and entertainment events. However, as technology advanced, the decision was made to retire the OB van and establish a modern control room at the Hamburg facility instead. The new control room is equipped with two Lawo mc²36 audio mixing consoles, each offering 256 processing channels and 864 channels of I/O capacity. These consoles are integrated into the system via Ravenna network, allowing for flexible and lossless signal distribution.
According to Matthias Hitz, the technical director at Studio Berlin’s Hamburg location, the new control room has significantly increased production flexibility. With two identical control rooms now operational simultaneously, the studio can handle any production independently of the studio. The Ravenna network enables quick and flexible signal routing between the control rooms, ensuring a seamless production process.
Hitz also emphasized the importance of Lawo’s technology in meeting current needs and preparing for the future of media production. The partnership with Lawo has provided Studio Berlin with the flexibility and IP-based solutions necessary to adapt quickly and efficiently to future developments. This upgrade marks a significant step forward for Studio Berlin and demonstrates their commitment to staying at the forefront of technology in the industry.
