Cowboys ready for upcoming trio of games at Charleston Classic

The Oklahoma State Cowboys are set to face off against the Florida Atlantic Owls in the quarterfinal round of the 2024 Shriners Children’s Charleston Classic. The Cowboys, under new head coach Steve Lutz, are off to a 3-0 start and are looking to continue their winning streak in the tournament. Lutz’s team is known for their fast pace and heavy defensive pressure, ranking among the national leaders in turnover margin, steals, and fastbreak points.

The Cowboys have a roster with 13 total newcomers, with eight of the top nine scorers being transfers. Fifth-year forwards Abou Ousmane and Marchelus “Chi Chi” Avery lead the team in scoring. OSU has shown strong bench scoring and defensive pressure, creating turnovers and capitalizing on fastbreak opportunities.

On the other hand, the FAU Owls, led by new head coach John Jakus, are averaging over 90 points per game and have a deadly three-point shooting team. FAU has multiple players scoring in double figures, with strong contributions from transfers and reserves.

A win for the Cowboys would move them into the semifinals, while a loss would drop them into the consolation bracket. This matchup marks the third meeting between the two teams, with each team having won one game in the series. The game is set to take place at TD Arena in Charleston, South Carolina, and will be broadcast on ESPN2.
