Press Release: Vacant Residence Fire in Southwest Oklahoma City Sparks Safety Warning
Oklahoma City, OK – A vacant property caught fire Wednesday morning in the southwest region of Oklahoma City, prompting a swift response from local authorities. Officers from the Oklahoma City Police Department, who were patrolling near Southwest 62nd Street and South Walker Avenue, noticed smoke rising from the area and promptly alerted the Oklahoma City Fire Department.
Upon arrival, firefighters quickly identified the source of the fire, which they believe was likely the result of someone attempting to stay warm overnight. Thankfully, there were no injuries reported in the incident.
“The colder months are approaching, and people are going to start turning on their heaters,” stated OKCFD Battalion Chief Paul Nash. He emphasized the importance of home safety during this time, urging residents to check their smoke alarms. “If they do not have one, we can come out and install one for them.”
The Oklahoma City Fire Department is dedicated to ensuring community safety, especially as temperatures drop and the risk of heating-related fires increases. Residents are encouraged to take preventive measures by inspecting their heating equipment and ensuring smoke alarms are functional.
For those needing assistance with smoke alarm installation, the Oklahoma City Fire Department can be contacted at (405) 316-BEEP.
As the city prepares for the winter season, fire officials remind everyone to stay vigilant and prioritize safety to prevent potential fire hazards.
