Oklahoma Voters Endorse Conservative Leadership in Recent Elections
On November 5, Oklahoma voters demonstrated strong support for conservative Republican candidates at both national and state levels, with every one of the state’s 77 counties backing President-elect Donald Trump. This sweeping victory highlights the residents’ faith in conservative values and policies.
In light of recent criticisms suggesting that Republican leaders are not adequately addressing key issues such as teachers’ salaries, school funding, and mental health resources, proponents of the party assert that significant strides have been made. Over the past decade, the Republican supermajority in the Oklahoma House has significantly increased funding for education and mental health services.
Teacher salaries, for instance, have seen a remarkable increase of 34%, rising from an average of $45,646 in 2017 to $62,640 in 2023. A notable $250 million was allocated specifically for salaries during this year’s legislative session. Additionally, new initiatives, including a free tuition program for aspiring teachers, have been put in place to attract new talent to the profession.
K-12 public school spending in Oklahoma has seen a 62% increase over the last eight years, with the state investing a record $1.5 billion in recurring educational funding between FY19 and FY25. This funding reflects a commitment larger than that of the previous 27 years combined. Furthermore, nearly $300 million has been earmarked for mental health initiatives.
The economic landscape under Republican leadership has also improved, with tax cuts for families and businesses, resulting in the state’s economy effectively doubling its revenue output. These achievements demonstrate the impact of conservative governance in Oklahoma.
As Speaker of the House Charles McCall prepares to leave his position, he emphasized the importance of continued collaboration among Oklahomans to ensure the state remains a model of conservative values and economic success.
