Mountaire to Commemorate 30 Years of Providing Thanksgiving Meals for Thousands this Saturday | Lifestyle

Mountaire Farms, a poultry company, is set to celebrate the 30th anniversary of its Thanksgiving for Thousands event by packing 38,000 meals for families in need. The event, set to take place at four locations on November 23, will see volunteers and employees coming together to pack boxes containing a roaster chicken, canned corn, green beans, cranberry sauce, yams, stuffing, gravy, and brownie mix, designed to feed a family of four. Mountaire Farms partners with Redner’s Markets, a grocery store, to provide the shelf-stable food for the event.

The Thanksgiving for Thousands program began in 1994 when a local church in Dagsboro could no longer accommodate the 100 people it fed with Mountaire chickens during the holiday season. The program switched to a boxed meal system in order to reach more families in need with the help of Mountaire. It has grown steadily since then, with 14,000 boxes being packed and distributed this year. The event relies heavily on volunteers and partnerships with faith-based and non-profit organizations to ensure that the boxes reach those who need them the most.

Hundreds of churches and non-profit organizations have reserved the boxes to distribute them in the communities surrounding Mountaire facilities in Maryland, Delaware, and Virginia. Mountaire Farms is grateful for the continued support of its volunteers and partners in making the Thanksgiving for Thousands event a success each year.
