Oklahoma Governor Kevin Stitt has announced plans to create a deportation operation targeting criminal illegal immigrants in state prisons, aligning with President-elect Trump’s proposed mass deportation initiative. Stitt stated that the plan aims to remove burdensome individuals from the state’s correctional facilities and restore Oklahoma to the rule of law. The state commissioner of public safety will lead the effort and deliver a plan by January, consulting with the Trump transition team for implementation.
There are over 500 criminal illegal immigrants in Oklahoma prisons costing taxpayers $36,000 a day. Trump has promised to prioritize public safety and national security threats in the operation, despite opposition from Democrats in sanctuary jurisdictions. Stitt criticized the opposition, emphasizing the importance of removing criminals from the country regardless of their immigration status.
While Oklahoma may not be a border state, Stitt highlighted the impact of the crisis at the southern border on the state, including a 500% increase in fentanyl deaths since he took office and a recent terror plot involving a suspect living in Oklahoma. He clarified that the deportation initiative targets criminals and does not reflect an anti-immigrant stance, recognizing the value of legal immigration for the workforce and society.
Stitt expressed optimism for safer communities in the U.S. following Trump’s victory and cabinet picks, believing that the American people support such efforts. The governor hopes to work with the incoming administration to make communities across the country safer and more secure.
