Oklahoma Dominates Inaugural Red River Cup Over Texas
DUNCAN, OK – In a stunning display of skill and teamwork, Oklahoma emerged victorious in the inaugural Red River Cup Matches, defeating Texas decisively with a total score of 53 points at The Territory Golf & Country Club. The event, orchestrated by the Texas Golf Association and the Oklahoma Golf Association, featured two 18-player teams made up of eight mid-amateurs, six senior amateurs, and four women amateurs competing in a total of 27 matches, each worth three points.
The competition kicked off on Wednesday with Four-Ball Match Play, where Oklahoma established an early lead at 16-11. The following day, the true test came with 18 singles matches offering 54 points. Oklahoma showcased their prowess, claiming an impressive 37 points from these matches. Notable performances included Bobby Baugh from San Antonio, Rob Couture from Celina, and Anna Schultz from Heath, each securing wins in their respective 18-hole matches. Baugh and Schultz swept all three points, while Couture earned 2.5 points for Team Texas.
The matches took place at The Territory Golf & Country Club, known for its challenging par-72 layout and picturesque setting along Stagestand Creek, about three hours northwest of Dallas-Fort Worth. The inaugural event proved to be an excellent test of golf for all participants.
Looking ahead, the Red River Cup will shift to Texas in 2025, with the Texas Golf Association set to host the next edition of this prestigious event. Teams will be selected based on Statewide and Senior Player of the Year standings from both men’s and women’s competitions, ensuring the best players represent their respective states.
