The holiday season can be financially challenging for many, with the rise in food prices since the start of the pandemic exacerbating the strain. Despite a slight decline in at-home food price inflation in 2022, prices in September 2023 were still 1.3% higher than in September 2022. This has led to increased demand at food banks, with the Food Bank of the Rockies Western Slope Director noting a significant rise in families needing assistance in the past 10 years.
The Delta Confluence Park Mobile Pantry, operated by the Food Bank of the Rockies, recently provided over 200 families with Thanksgiving essentials like turkeys and other goodies. Clients expressed gratitude for the support, with one individual mentioning that without the pantry, they wouldn’t have been able to celebrate Thanksgiving due to financial challenges.
The pantry not only distributed Thanksgiving-themed items but also provided regular food staples like meats, produce, and other essentials. Clients praised the variety and flexibility of the pantry, emphasizing the importance of such services for those facing food insecurity.
For those looking to help, donations to the Food Bank of the Rockies are welcome, with each dollar providing three meals’ worth of food. Volunteer support is also crucial in ensuring food distribution across the region. As the need for food assistance remains high, community support and involvement are essential in helping vulnerable populations access nutritious meals during the holiday season and beyond.
