Rapid City Mayor Encourages Giving Spirit with Food Drive and Bell Ringing Campaign
The Mayor of Rapid City, Jason Salamun, was busy on Friday spreading the message of giving back to the community. He started the day at Baken Park Family Fare for the Public Works AFSCME Food Drive, urging people to donate food or cash to support Feeding South Dakota. The food drive, now in its third year, has already collected over 2,100 pounds of food and $1,100.
Local President Sean Jewett expressed gratitude for the overwhelming generosity of the community, saying, “They’re excited. They get engaged. They are the most giving people ever.” After the food drive, Mayor Salamun made his way to Safeway to help the Salvation Army by ringing the bell and collecting donations.
Mayor Salamun emphasized the importance of giving back, stating, “Rapid City has a generous spirit, so you have donation drives like what’s happening here today with the city employees and Public Works.” He encouraged others to follow his example and share the Christmas spirit with everyone.
The Salvation Army’s Red Kettle campaign will continue through Christmas Eve, with more bell ringers needed. Those interested in volunteering can find out more information at registertoring.com. The Mayor’s efforts to encourage generosity and giving back to the community are sure to make a positive impact this holiday season.
