President-elect Donald Trump has named Russell Vought, a cost-cutting and deregulating expert, as his pick to lead the Office of Management and Budget. Trump believes Vought will help implement his America First Agenda and restore fiscal sanity to the nation. Vought, a co-author of Project 2025, sees his nomination as unfinished business on behalf of the American people. In Project 2025, Vought argued for setting a fiscal goal early in the budget process to address fiscal irresponsibility.
During an interview, Vought advocated for the president taking greater control over government agencies to dismantle the Deep State. Despite distancing themselves from Project 2025 during the campaign, Trump and his allies have tapped individuals associated with its policies for positions in the incoming administration. If confirmed by the Senate, Vought will oversee budget execution and policy implementation across executive agencies.
Other key Cabinet picks announced by Trump include former NFL player Scott Turner for housing and urban development secretary, Rep. Lori Chavez-DeRemer for labor secretary, surgeon Marty Makary for FDA commissioner, former Rep. Dave Weldon for CDC director, and Sebastian Gorka as deputy assistant and senior director for counterterrorism. Gorka, a former national security aide, faced criticism in the past for wearing the medal of a reportedly Nazi-linked Hungarian group. The appointments are seen as part of Trump’s effort to exert more control over government agencies and implement his policies efficiently.
