ARDMORE, Okla. — Exceptional Community Hospital is reviving the spirit of the "Bedlam" rivalry this football season through a charitable initiative known as the Bedlam Bash Food Drive. Launched last week, the drive invites community members to contribute non-perishable food items to support local families in need.
In a spirited kickoff, Dr. Benjamin Hicks, the hospital’s medical director and representative for the Oklahoma Sooners, went head-to-head with chief nursing officer Shelby Kropp RN-BSN, who represented the Oklahoma State Cowboys. Their friendly rivalry aims to unite fans while tackling food insecurity in the region.
Kropp, who previously worked with another healthcare organization, expressed her enthusiasm for continuing the tradition, stating, "Before coming to Exceptional, I was with another health organization, and this is something they came up with. Bedlam is huge here, and even though the football part is dying down, there’s still the basketball portion… so I wanted to continue to pull that legacy on."
The Bedlam Bash Food Drive will run until December 13, culminating just before the Sooners and Cowboys face off in a highly anticipated men’s basketball matchup. Donations can be dropped off at the lobby of Exceptional Community Hospital, located at 1641 Woertz Way in Ardmore.
This initiative not only fosters community spirit amid the competitive sports rivalry but also highlights the hospital’s commitment to enhancing the well-being of local families. As the season progresses, local support will play a crucial role in making a difference for those in need.
