Women’s Basketball Suffers Defeat Against No. 9 Oklahoma

UNLV Lady Rebels Fall to No. 9 Oklahoma in Non-Conference Clash

Las Vegas, NV – November 27, 2024 – In a highly anticipated non-conference showdown, the UNLV Lady Rebels suffered an 88-58 defeat against the No. 9 ranked Oklahoma Sooners at the Thomas & Mack Center on Friday night.

Kiara Jackson spearheaded UNLV’s performance with her second career double-double, contributing 20 points and 10 rebounds, all on the defensive end. McKinna Brackens added 12 points and seven rebounds, showcasing an efficient shooting display going 5-for-7 from the field and 2-for-3 from beyond the arc.

The Sooners, now 5-0 for the season, were led by Skylar Vann, who scored 15 points, closely followed by Zya Vann with 14 points. Despite a strong start, the Lady Rebels fell behind in the second half, compelled to reassess their strategy against a well-rounded Oklahoma team known for its depth and scoring capabilities.

"The outcome wasn’t what we desired," remarked head coach Lindy La Rocque. "Oklahoma is a very good team, and while I don’t believe we are 30 points worse, that was the case tonight. We were excellent in the first half, and we need to analyze where things went awry after halftime."

Despite UNLV shooting 41.2% from the field in the first half, they struggled to maintain momentum, with Oklahoma dominating on the boards, out-rebounding the Rebels 51-37.

The defeat leaves the all-time series between the two teams tied at 2-2. Looking ahead, the Lady Rebels will continue their five-game homestand at the UNLV Thanksgiving Classic, starting with a match against UCF on November 27 at 12 p.m. PT.

As the Lady Rebels regroup, they will aim to learn from this experience and build towards upcoming challenges.
