Patty Gasso, the head coach of Oklahoma’s women’s softball team, has been chosen to lead the USA women’s softball team through the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. With eight national championships under her belt, including the past four, Gasso is a highly accomplished coach and a Hall of Famer in the National Fastpitch Coaches Association.
Team USA has a history of success in Olympic softball, winning gold in 1996, 2000, and 2004. However, they fell short in 2008 and most recently in the Tokyo Olympics in 2021. Gasso is determined to guide the team back to the top of the podium and secure a gold medal in 2028.
Expressing her excitement and gratitude for the opportunity to coach Team USA, Gasso stated, “It is truly a remarkable moment in my career and a dream come true.” With a strong track record of success at Oklahoma, including a 1,515-352-2 record, Gasso is poised to make a significant impact on the national program.
USA Softball CEO Craig Cress and the selection committee have full confidence in Gasso’s abilities to lead the team to success. Cress emphasized Gasso’s impact on the softball community and expressed optimism about her skills, knowledge, and experience enhancing the national team.
The Olympic softball tournament will be held at Devon Park in Oklahoma City, the site of Gasso’s national title wins. As she takes on this new challenge, Gasso is focused on making Team USA the best it can be and bringing home the gold in 2028.
