Auburn’s No. 1 defense and strong paint presence overwhelm Oklahoma

The No. 1 Auburn Tigers extended their winning streak to 14 games with a dominant 98-70 victory over Oklahoma on Tuesday night. Johni Broome and Chad Baker-Mazara led the team with 15 points each, while Denver Jones, Chaney Johnson, and Tahaad Pettiford also contributed double-digit points. Dylan Cardwell had a career-high six blocks for the Tigers, showcasing their strong defensive presence.

Despite the efforts from Dayton Forsythe, Jalon Moore, Jeremiah Fears, and Kobe Elvis, Oklahoma struggled to contain Auburn’s frontcourt and only managed 20 points in the paint compared to Auburn’s 46. The Tigers’ defense held Oklahoma to a season-low 33.3% shooting, displaying their defensive prowess.

Auburn’s offensive rating remains one of the best in the nation, but their strong defense at home has been a key factor in their success this season. The Tigers closed out the first half with a 6-0 run and opened the second half with another 6-0 run to secure the victory over Oklahoma.

Looking ahead, Oklahoma will face off against No. 4 Tennessee, while Auburn will take on No. 6 Florida in their next matchups. The Tigers continue to dominate in SEC play and are proving to be a force to be reckoned with as they aim to maintain their undefeated conference record.
