International Canoe Federation focuses on preparing for top-tier events in Oklahoma City


Delegates from the International Canoe Federation (ICF) visited Oklahoma City to discuss preparations for the 2026 World Championships and the 2028 LA Summer Olympics. ICF president Thomas Konietzko praised the Whitewater Center in Oklahoma City as one of the best facilities in the world, highlighting its design and amenities. Mike Knopp, executive director of RIVERSPORT, emphasized the venue’s adherence to Olympic standards since its opening nearly 10 years ago.

Mayor David Holt noted the city’s investments in maintaining the facility and mentioned plans for temporary grandstands and security measures for the upcoming events. The ICF delegation also planned to explore opportunities for global athletes to study and train at Oklahoma universities while utilizing the RIVERSPORT facility.

Konietzko’s positive comments about the venue and the city’s preparations for the upcoming events underscored the excitement and readiness for hosting world-class canoeing competitions in Oklahoma City.
