The University of Michigan men’s gymnastics team competed in a meet against top-ranked Oklahoma and No. 14 Simpson College, finishing second with a season-high score of 326.400. Despite their strong performance, Oklahoma claimed the victory with a score of 327.700. The Wolverines had four event titles and seven podium finishes, with Fred Richard earning two event titles. Michigan trailed behind Oklahoma throughout the meet but managed to narrow the gap in the final rotation.
The Wolverines started strong on the pommel horse but fell behind after the first rotation. They bounced back on the still rings, winning their first title of the day. Charlie Larson secured another title on the floor exercise, but Oklahoma maintained a lead heading into the parallel bars rotation. Richard’s performance on the parallel bars helped Michigan close the gap, but Oklahoma still held a substantial lead going into the high bar rotation. Despite strong performances on the high bar and vault, Michigan was unable to overtake Oklahoma and finished in second place.
Next, the team will face Ohio State on Saturday, March 15, at Cliff Keen Arena. The Wolverines will look to build on their strong performance and continue to improve as they head towards the end of the season.
