Tom Homan, Trump’s border czar, dismisses Eric Adams’ quid pro quo accusation as ‘absurd’

White House border czar Tom Homan denied allegations of a quid pro quo between the Trump administration and New York Mayor Eric Adams regarding access to Rikers Island jail for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents. Homan insisted that the Justice Department moving to dismiss criminal charges against Adams was not in exchange for the mayor’s cooperation on immigration. The two men had been discussing access to Rikers Island for months, and Homan clarified that their conversation was “cop to cop” as opposed to a deal between a border czar and a mayor.

The Justice Department dismissed corruption charges against Adams on Friday following an internal mutiny that led to several resignations, including Danielle R. Sassoon, the top federal prosecutor in Manhattan. It was reported that Adams’ lawyers urged a quid pro quo during a meeting with the DOJ, suggesting that the indictments would be dropped in exchange for the mayor’s help with the administration’s enforcement priorities. Adams, who has pleaded not guilty to bribery and fraud charges, denied any offer of a quid pro quo and claimed the charges are politically motivated.

Homan emphasized that the goal of their discussions was to combat illegal alien crime and find the worst offenders in New York City. Despite the controversy surrounding the dismissal of charges against Adams, both Homan and Adams have denied any improper agreements or exchanges.
