After consecutive days of freezing temperatures, Oklahoma has seen a spike in wrecks on icy roadways. Law enforcement, particularly the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, has been dealing with numerous injury crashes and over two hundred non-injury wrecks. Despite a decrease in reported crashes on Wednesday, troopers are still monitoring major interstates and roadways. News 9’s Lisa Monahan rode along with OHP Trooper Terry Hinkle to assess the situation firsthand. While the roads were clear, there were still slick spots to be cautious of, with several vehicles involved in wrecks left on the side of the road. Troopers are taking measures to mark these vehicles with caution tape until they can be removed. Hinkle emphasized the importance of staying warm during long hours on the road, as the wind chill can be brutal in winter conditions. He advised all drivers to carry extra clothing to combat the cold. Despite the challenges posed by the winter weather, law enforcement is dedicated to ensuring the safety of all those on the road and is prepared to handle any emergencies that may arise.
