Internet personality Andrew Tate and his brother Tristan have left Romania for Florida on a private flight, according to a source familiar with the situation. The brothers are expected to return to Romania by the end of March to fulfil legal obligations related to their ongoing criminal case, which includes accusations of forming an organized criminal group, human trafficking, trafficking of minors, sexual intercourse with a minor, and money laundering. The Tate brothers, former kickboxers with dual U.S. and British citizenship, have denied all the allegations against them.
It was reported that U.S. President Donald Trump’s administration may have applied pressure on Romanian authorities to lift the travel restrictions on the Tates. Foreign Minister Emil Hurezeanu denied any pressure but mentioned that the Tates were discussed during a meeting with Trump’s special envoy Richard Grenell at the Munich Security Conference.
The brothers are currently under judicial control, which requires them to check in with police regularly. Despite facing serious allegations, Andrew Tate has built a large following on social media by promoting an ultra-masculine lifestyle that has been criticized for its misogynistic views. The Tates were previously banned from leaving Romania but this restriction has now been lifted, while other legal obligations remain in place.
The first criminal case against the Tates in Romania was dismissed in December due to flaws in the indictment, but a British arrest warrant has been issued for them in relation to allegations of sexual aggression between 2012 and 2015, which they have denied. They will be extradited to the UK once the Romanian trial proceedings are complete.
