CSUN Baseball suffers loss in season opener against #16 Oklahoma

CSUN Baseball suffered a 9-0 defeat against No. 16 Oklahoma in the first game of a weekend series at L. Dale Mitchell Park. Leadoff hitter Roberto Gonzalez managed two hits for the Matadors, but the team struggled to score against the Sooner pitching staff. Oklahoma took an early lead with a home run in the first inning and continued to extend their lead throughout the game.

CSUN had multiple opportunities to score, with players getting on base in several innings, but they were unable to capitalize on those chances. Pitcher Ryan Halamicek kept the Matadors in the game until the sixth inning, but Oklahoma’s offense proved too strong. The Sooners scored four runs in the seventh inning to secure a comfortable lead.

Despite the loss, there were some bright spots for CSUN, including solid performances from Halamicek and newcomer Kody King. Colton Boardman continued his streak of reaching base in all games this season, showcasing his consistency at the plate.

With this defeat, CSUN’s record falls to 2-5, while Oklahoma remains undefeated at 9-0. The Matadors will have a chance to bounce back in the next game of the series on Saturday. Fans can catch the action at 12 p.m. PT on the SECN+. #GoMatadors.
