In their opening game at the Astros Foundation College Classic, Oklahoma State suffered a 5-2 loss to Tennessee at Daikin Park. Colin Brueggemann led the Cowboys offensively, going 3-for-4, while Donovan LaSalle added an RBI double. Gabe Davis took the loss on the mound, allowing three runs in three innings, while Stormy Rhodes struck out a career-high five in five innings of relief.
Despite the efforts of the Cowboys, Tennessee’s strong offense, which leads the nation with 21 home runs, proved too much to handle. The Volunteers hit four solo homers in the game, leading to their victory over Oklahoma State.
After falling behind 5-0, the Cowboys managed to score two runs with Brueggemann hitting a home run and LaSalle adding a ground-rule double. However, it was not enough to overcome Tennessee’s lead.
Next, Oklahoma State will face Texas A&M, another team ranked as No. 1 nationally, on Saturday at 7:05 p.m. in the continuation of the Astros Foundation College Classic. Despite the loss to Tennessee, the Cowboys will look to bounce back and secure a win in their next game.
