Councilwoman in Lawton recognized as prominent Black leader in Oklahoma


Lawton Councilwoman Sherene L. Williams has been recognized as one of Oklahoma’s most powerful and influential Black leaders. Since taking office as the Ward 7 Lawton City Council Representative a year ago, Williams has made a significant impact in her community. She was recently featured in TBC magazine for her outstanding work. Williams credits her recognition not only to her own efforts but also to the residents of her ward who have come together to help their neighbors in various ways such as painting homes, mowing lawns, and assisting with meal sign-ups and wheelchair ramps.

As a Lawton native and retired Lt. Col., Williams is proud of the sense of community in her city and believes that the caring and supportive nature of its residents is what sets Lawton apart. She believes that the work being done in the City is helping to showcase the character and compassion of its residents on a state level. Williams expressed her gratitude for being honored as one of Oklahoma’s most powerful and influential Black leaders and sees it as a reflection of the kindness and generosity of the people of Lawton towards their neighbors.
