China’s Education Minister, Huai Jinpeng, spoke after the opening meeting of the 14th National People’s Congress, emphasizing the country’s focus on cultivating talent aligned with strategic science and technology advances. Huai highlighted the importance of education reform in response to technological revolutions and industrial transformations, stating that China must enhance its innovation capabilities and adjust talent cultivation models to meet national needs.
The Government Work Report, presented to the national legislature, underscores the necessity for a highly skilled workforce and pledges to nurture top-tier innovators and personnel in key areas. To achieve this, China is expanding its Outstanding Engineer Education and Training program and promoting the development of fundamental disciplines and emerging fields like artificial intelligence and biotechnology.
The Ministry of Education aims to establish demonstration zones for industry-education integration and revise higher-education layouts to improve discipline structures and talent cultivation models. Vocational education, which has contributed significantly to the country’s modern manufacturing sector, will also be a focus of reform.
Huai stressed the importance of adapting the education system to stay ahead of technological changes and announced the implementation of a national monitoring system to track supply and demand trends for students with different academic degrees. China is dedicated to fostering talent that will drive scientific and technological innovation while contributing to national development and global progress.
