Oklahoma voters will soon decide the Republican nominee for the unexpired Senate District 8 seat in a runoff election scheduled for April 1, 2025. The top two contenders from the March 4 primary are Bryan Logan of Paden and David Nelson of Morris. Logan received nearly 41% of the vote, while Nelson received nearly 32%, leading to the need for a runoff as neither candidate secured more than 50% of the vote.
The special election was triggered by the resignation of Sen. Roger Thompson, leaving the seat vacant after his removal as Senate Appropriations and Budget Committee chairman in June 2024. Senate District 8 encompasses parts of northeastern Oklahoma, including communities in Creek, McIntosh, Muskogee, Okfuskee, and Okmulgee Counties.
The winner of the Republican runoff will advance to the general election on May 13, where they will face Democrat Nathan Brewer and Independent Steve Sanford, both of Henryetta. This election is crucial in determining the next representative for Senate District 8, and voters will have the opportunity to make their voices heard in the upcoming runoff and general elections.
