The Oklahoma State Department of Health has confirmed that there is no case of measles in Oklahoma, despite reports that a staff member at Wayside Elementary School in Bartlesville had been diagnosed with the disease. The individual was actually positive for the IgG immunity, not measles.
Bartlesville Public Schools posted an update on Facebook, stating that while a hospital had diagnosed a staff member with measles, the OSDH had not confirmed the diagnosis and had not declared a health emergency. The OSDH also clarified on Facebook that there have been no confirmed cases of measles in Oklahoma and they continue to monitor the situation.
Custodians at Wayside Elementary have conducted a deep cleaning of surfaces after the staff member’s diagnosis, even though measles is airborne and highly infectious. BPS emphasized that the majority of people in the United States have a low risk of contracting measles due to the effectiveness of the vaccine.
The OSDH reiterated that they will notify the public if there is a confirmed case of measles and will provide necessary information to protect public health. As of now, there are no confirmed cases of measles in Oklahoma. The public is encouraged to seek medical help if they believe they may have been exposed to measles, and to stay informed about symptoms, infection, and vaccination.
