Congresswoman Stephanie Bice of Oklahoma District 5 is fighting to prevent the sale of the downtown Oklahoma City federal building, which was recently added to a list of potential properties for disposal by the U.S. General Services Agency. Bice expressed her intention to ensure the building remains open due to its high occupancy rate and the importance of its tenants.
The federal building in Oklahoma City was built in 2005 as a replacement for the Alfred P. Murrah building, which was destroyed in the 1995 bombing that claimed the lives of 168 people. Bice believes that the inclusion of the building on the disposal list may have been an oversight, as it is a relatively new structure with strong occupancy.
While the U.S. GSA has classified the building as a “non-core property” and suggested it could be sold, Bice emphasized that being on the list does not guarantee closure or sale. She noted that the agency is evaluating various properties to ensure efficient use and prevent waste.
In addition to her efforts to save the federal building, Bice discussed other potential closures in the Oklahoma area, her advocacy for paid family leave, and her involvement in the upcoming Continuing Resolution. As the representative of the district, she remains committed to protecting the interests of her constituents and ensuring crucial government facilities remain operational.
