Oklahoma students gain hands-on experience in the field of politics

More than 100 high school students are in Washington, D.C., this week as part of the United States Senate Youth Program. The program allows students to learn about working in politics and public service. During the week-long program, student-delegates hear from high-level government officials, federal agencies, and a Supreme Court justice. Two students from Oklahoma were selected to represent their state and had the opportunity to meet Senator James Lankford. The students express their enthusiasm for public service and the chance to learn from leaders in various fields. In addition to the valuable experience, students also receive a $10,000 college scholarship. The program is a flagship initiative of the Hearst Foundation. This unique opportunity provides students with a comprehensive understanding of government and public policy, as well as a chance to network with influential leaders. The program highlights the importance of youth engagement in civic affairs and promotes leadership development among high school students. The reception at the Capitol is a key event during the program, allowing students to interact with their senators and gain insights into the workings of the government.
