Judge approves release of ‘Slender Man’ attacker from mental health facility

A judge has denied a motion to stop the release of Morgan Geyser, who was involved in the 2014 stabbing of a classmate to please the fictional character “Slender Man.” Geyser, now 22, was 12 at the time of the attack and has spent seven years in a mental health facility. She was cleared for release into a group home earlier this year after making considerable progress according to three medical experts. The judge ruled that Geyser’s release would continue as planned, with strict supervision in place to ensure public safety.

The decision was based on testimony from doctors who knew Geyser and saw no reason to block her release. The judge also noted that there was no evidence of deception or lying on Geyser’s part. The motion to stop her release focused on her reading of a book with dark themes and contact with a man who was reportedly sexually aroused by her crime. Geyser disclosed both incidents to the team determining her release plan and requested a no-contact order with the man.

Geyser and Weier lured their classmate Payton Leutner to a park and stabbed her 19 times, with Geyser delivering the majority of the stab wounds. Leutner survived and managed to crawl out of the woods to get help. Geyser was found mentally ill and pleaded guilty to attempted first-degree intentional homicide, receiving a 40-year sentence at a mental hospital. Weier, who did not stab Leutner, was sentenced to 25 years but was released after four years in 2021. A hearing to review Geyser’s release plan is scheduled for March 21st.
