SWOSU Softball had a tough loss in a nine-inning thriller against Arkansas-Monticello, falling 7-6 despite a late game comeback that sent the game into extra innings. After scoring four runs in the seventh to tie the game, SWOSU fell short in the ninth, allowing the Blossoms to walk it off with a single.
Despite out-hitting the Blossoms 10-9, the Dawgs stranded 10 runners on base, with Chesnie Hewitt leading the team with a 2-3 performance. Pitcher Jaycee McKee had a solid outing in relief but allowed the game-winning run in the ninth.
This loss comes after a winless week for SWOSU, who suffered a sweep against Northwestern and three more defeats in Monticello. The team will look to rebound on Friday, March 21, with a doubleheader against Southern Arkansas in Weatherford. The series will conclude the following day.
SWOSU’s late-game resilience has been a hallmark of their season, with multiple comebacks in the final innings. Despite the tough losses, the team continues to fight until the end and will be looking to turn things around in the upcoming games.
