Oklahoma State defeated North Dakota State 9-1 in the first game of a two-game midweek series at O’Brate Stadium. The win improved OSU’s record to 10-8, while NDSU fell to 4-15. The teams will meet again on Wednesday for the series finale at 2 p.m.
OSU used six pitchers who combined for 17 strikeouts and allowed only three hits. Ryan Ure started and recorded a career-high seven strikeouts in 3 2/3 innings, while Mario Pesca earned his first win, striking out all four batters he faced.
Offensively, the Cowboys scored in each of the first six innings and hit four home runs. Brayden Smith went 4-for-4 with three RBIs, falling just short of hitting for the cycle.
OSU got on the board early with a 2-0 lead in the first inning and expanded their lead in the third with home runs from Nolan Schubart and Ian Daugherty. The Cowboys added runs in the following innings while shutting down NDSU’s offense.
Overall, OSU’s dominant pitching and powerful offense secured the victory, as the Cowboys did not allow an earned run throughout the game. The team will look to sweep the series against North Dakota State in Wednesday’s matchup.
